Trusting God No Matter What the Circumstances

Trusting God No Matter What the Circumstances

“The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.” –Psalm 121:7

In late 2010, I had to have a physical for basketball. What I thought would be a normal trip to the Dr. turned to my biggest struggle yet. As all physicals go, you are examined in all places, low and high. The Dr. felt a cyst, which is a backup of semen. To fix the cyst it would require surgery. My doctor sent me to ultrasound to make sure this was a cyst and not something else. I prayed on the way to ultrasound that God would keep me safe, let this be a quick look and go home. The ultrasound technician found a mass on my left testicle, a possibly cancerous mass.

My Dr. scheduled an appointment for a specialist for that same day. The time between the two appointments were the most agonizing hours of my life. I prayed and prayed but found no comfort which was odd to me. I thought, “God always answers prayers doesn’t he?” I was a year old in my faith at this time, and my desire was quickly fading. A new Christian is on fire for Jesus. They cannot wait to get to church they witness and are eager about their walk with God. Sometimes this fades, like it did with me.

I was scheduled for many ultrasounds and scans and, of course, a surgery. The surgery was to remove the tumor and correct the cyst.  Again, I prayed angrily to God cursing him for doing this to me, the one who tried to serve Him to my best ability. I had never read Deuteronomy 31:6…

“Be strong! Be courageous! Do not be afraid of them! For the Lord your God will be with you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you.” –Deuteronomy 31:6

Before my surgery, I fell to my knees in the bathroom and began to weep. I prayed to God to have mercy on me to be with the doctors during my surgery. I placed my faith in the Lord again and asked for a better relationship with Him. My surgery was successful and the tumor was removed. The best part was that the tumor was benign which means it was not harmful or cancerous. From that day on I have known God will be there 100% of the time no matter how bad the circumstance may be. I feel blessed have been in the situation that restored my faith in God.

I walk daily with God. Some days I don’t show up and I am truly embarrassed to admit it. I haven’t really read my bible either. A friend once told me that if I read my bible just once I will be hooked on it like a good book. And now I realize that this is the best book anyone could ever read. This is the book that sets us free from the chains of sin and delivers us to our Father. Jesus hung on the cross so that he could free us. All he asks in return is to trust and follow him. It is a very little thing to do in return for what he did for us.

What is stopping you?
