Finally Getting Social

Finally Getting Social

I have finally had the time to set up accounts for Twitter and Facebook for the blog! Some of you may have noticed the icons on the top-right corner of the page of Twitter and Facebook. When clicked they do not work (for me at least). I will be working on that problem soon…

Follow & Like Daring to Believe!

Sorry that it has taken so long to get these up and running! Tell your friends and family about the blog and pages!

Family Time is the Best Time

Family Time is the Best Time

Tonight Emma, Graham, and I stayed with our grandparents. Whenever we stay, Pa usually cooks up a big dinner and we all have a great time. Tonight I actually had the opportunity to cook dinner (which was not too bad). Afterwards we decided to go fishing…

At the end of our trip I caught 8 (no joke), Gray caught 2, and Emma had no luck. As I sat on the dock I realized that I have been self-conceded on trips. I realized that I always put myself first and the others got whatever was left after that. What I mean by this is that I have had a mindset that it should be all about me. This isn’t the path I (or any of us) should be walking. I know I shouldn’t act like this and I’m going to try better to be more caring and not always think about myself. I realized that when I’m not always stuck up, I actually enjoy what we are doing. I feel very stupid for not realizing this earlier. I’m sure my Mom is reading this and saying, “I told him, I told him!!” The point is that I should have thought about this long ago.

“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” –Philippians 2:3

It’s not always easy to stop and think about others (I have experienced this many times before). However, I dare you to believe that selfishness is just a small bump on the road of life. I dare you to believe…

Stepping Up

Stepping Up

My youth group’s “new year’s resolution” was to be a more mission-based group. Days after the ball was dropped we all loaded up and drove to the Nashville Rescue Mission to serve (which was an amazing blessing). Since January, we have yet to assist the elderly, serve the poor, or feed the hungry. Doesn’t look like the resolution has worked out, huh?

I could blame the pastor or staff or I could step back and blame myself, as well as the other members of our group. I feel like it is somewhat a responsibility to the youth that we speak out instead of keeping quiet and let the adults handle everything. We are a YOUTH group which means we should be the most involved, sadly we are not. As a youth group we should form close bonds with one another and be one.

In our group there is the head honcho (the pastor), the deputy (assistant pastor), and finally the common folk (the youth). But the cool thing is that we all have a say. I have the right to speak out about our issues in our group and figure out the best ways to work out the kinks. Everyone has these rights. I want to take the initiative and be our leader. I want to be the person that people can come to talk to. I want to be our voice and most of all fix one of my main problems with the group.

If our group had a leader, (not necessarily me, anyone who would be willing) they could speak out and fix our problems. If I was our leader I would fix our lack of missions. I want our group to be more than an every Wednesday and Sunday group. I want us to be a mission based group. A group that goes out in the spare time we have (as a group or even individuals) and better our community and ourselves as well.

If you have listened to 94.1 FM (WAY FM) this past week you may have heard about Blood: Water Missions. This organization, when you donate money, builds wells for the less fortunate in African countries. One “campaign” you can start with your group is the Lemon: Aid campaign. This certain campaign consists of setting up a lemonade stand and serving lemonade to thirsty bystanders. All the money made from your stand can be donated to the organization to fund a building of a well. There are many more campaigns you could start yourself! Check out the website here: http://www.bloodwatermission.com/take-action/campaigns.php

I believe that if our group really comes together as one we could make some amazing things happen in our community. I believe that change can and will happen…

New Blog "Logo"

New Blog “Logo”

I came across this picture the other day and thought it would be perfect for the blog. I saw it and thought about God’s children. We are all God’s children, each and every one of us. However, not all of us believe in our creator. I think the blue arrow represents the believers and the red represents the non-believers.

The main reason I started this blog was to bring non-believers as well as believers the word of God. I want to reach as many people as possible and hopefully lead them in the right direction.  When non-believers and believers come together they are one and that is what the black arrow represents. I hope that one day the world will be one big black arrow.

Please comment and tell me what you think about the new logo.

Time Flies

Time Flies

“Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.” –Hebrews 11:1
Tonight a former youth came to speak to us about the importance of our faith. He is a college student that has had his up and downs (as we all do). He went to the same church and youth group that I now attend. He shared with us that when he was in our group he was plugged in, he was very close to God. I feel the same way… sometimes.

We all have our good/bad days. I feel like when I’m not close to God it is my fault. Dakota pointed out the same thing. When he moved away he wasn’t always able to make the Wednesday night classes. This slowly put his relationship with God on hold. I think we all have our moments when we are “unplugged.” We don’t have to move off or miss a week; we can have perfect attendance and still be the worst student. People and media all throw us off of our spiritual path. We also throw ourselves off our paths. I haven’t posted in over a week and I do apologize for that. I messed up right there in my faith and I was at church for a few Wednesdays in a row.

We’re overwhelmed in our daily treks and we fall short. I try to post at least 2 to 3 times a week. I didn’t post last Wednesday and told myself I will Friday and didn’t. I put off my faith. Just like I posted about, but I said we cannot put off our faith. But I did, I contradicted myself. Dakota stressed to us that “time flies.” It seems like just yesterday that it was Christmas and it’s almost summer. Time does fly, which means we don’t need to procrastinate in our faith. I’m guilty for doing this, we all are. I didn’t post on my blog for a whole week I mean what’s next?

“Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” –Psalm 119:18

You’re used to living each day and looking forward to the next. But tomorrow we might not wake up. I know, it sounds kind of harsh but it is so true. We are not guaranteed tomorrow or next week or even next month. Today is here and we should live it to the fullest. Just like procrastinating in our walk, we take our days for granted.

Dakota also mentioned something a pastor told him. Look back and think, “What did I do for the kingdom during my (elementary, high school, college, etc.) years?” I have tried to talk about God a few times. I’m not going to lie, it was tough. My blog is a form of ministry. I should walk the extra mile in my faith. That’s not going to be easy. But I am willing to try. I post to provide a message for believers as well as non-believers. I should also step out of my comfort zone and talk to the lost about the very thing I do on this blog.

Time flies and we take it for granted. I dare you as well as myself to step out in your faith and minister to the lost. I dare you to re-kindle the flame in your relationship with God. I dare you to believe…

Shot Out of the Sky

Shot Out of the Sky

Every year our church goes to CentriFuge or Fuge for short, a Christian camp for teens. We room in dorms with other boys from our youth group. Four boys in a room with one another for a week is the equation for pranks that usually don’t end as intended. I have pulled my fair share in my three years. Some I still regret.

So, as any idiot (I) would do I look up more pranks to do on YouTube (awfully stupid decision). One prank was to unscrew a shower head, put Kool-Aid powder in the head and let a Kool-Aid shower pour on your friend. I decided to see how it worked on my mom’s $60 showerhead and I totally destroyed it by screwing it on wrong. So that’s $60 out of my savings account…

Mom and Chad talked to me about it and the conversation expanded to more than the damage of simple pranks. I have made mistakes with my choices of pranks and I think I have forgotten the seriousness of this. They asked how I was even thinking about pulling more pranks. They told me I could rise above and lead.
At that moment I was shot out of the sky. It all sunk in. I had pulled some harsh pranks and now I was willing to pull more… I must be brain dead. I could lead. I could lead my group of peers out of thinking that pranks are essential to a trip. I have never thought of it like that.

I write a blog about Christian leadership, discipleship, and love. And I didn’t think that I could lead my peers? Once again, my brain’s motor needs a tune-up. The conversation wasn’t just about leadership and maturity. It was about being what God intends me to be in my teen and adult life. I think we all need to realize what we could be doing that we ignore every day. Like I ignored…

Over Spring Break I stayed with my Nanny and Pa away from Mom, Chad, Emma, and Graham. When I returned Emma had missed me more than I think anyone had missed me before. This was such a bittersweet moment. Bitter because I have treated her badly at times and sweet because of the love and affection she showed me. I was amazed.

Mom pointed this out to me, this was another bullet that knocked me out of my little (self conceded) world. I haven’t always treated Emma right but she still loved me and missed me. It was the closest thing to unconditional love that I have experienced from a person other than my mother. That absolutely blows my mind. To know that you can pester someone and disappoint them and they still love you. That, in my mind, is a Christ-like love. You can’t buy that…

Emma looks up to me because I am her big brother. I am here to protect her. Chad said I’m a littler him (Even though I have a few inches on him). I am supposed to be an example of the man she would want to marry one day, a man that she would love. I am here to be her protector. To be honest, I have done a very crappy job of that. I pray that changes soon.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." – Proverbs 31: 8 - 9

I think I am here for a purpose, we all are. I had medical issues that most don’t and that gives me an amazing advantage to be a witness for Him. I feel that this is my calling in life. I believe I am on this Earth to witness and rise and be a leader to the lost; a refuge to a lost. Yeah, I WRITE a blog but now I have to step up and WALK THE WALK. I was told that this needs to happen, and it is true. Again, shot out of the sky…

I feel disgusted with myself that I have let all of this just be for so long. I am thankful for my reality check. We all need one, no matter how perfect we think we or our lives are. Being shot out of the sky and having your flaws pointed out may seem harsh. But it is such a humbling experience; such a great awakening.

Being pointed out is hard, but so rewarding at the same time. I challenge you to think about the problems in your life. I dare you to believe that change is real. Change is here…
